You need a valid Glance Address to access the Glance service. Sign up for a Free Trial, or Subscribe. It takes just two minutes.
Install Glance
Glance software must be installed on your PC or Mac before you can show its screen. Install it now. Glance runs on PCs with Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 or Macs with OS version 10.9.3 or higher (PowerPC and Intel based).
If prompted, enter your Glance Address and Password.
Once installed, Glance places a "G" icon in your system tray (next to your computer's clock). You use Glance by clicking the "G".
Tip: Windows often tries to hide icons. Make sure the Glance icon stays visible by doing the following:
- Click Start > All Programs > Glance > Glance to make sure Glance is running.
- Right-click a blank spot on the Windows Task Bar and choose Properties. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens.
- Click Customize... in the lower right corner, which opens another window.
- Locate the line with the Glance "G" icon, click its entry in the Behavior column, choose Always show and click OK.
The Glance Menu
Single-click the "G" icon in your system tray, (next to your PC's clock) to open Glance's one-button menu.
Tip: A single right-click opens it faster.
Start Session - show my screen makes it possible for guests to see your live PC screen. If you are starting your first session, you will be prompted to enter your Glance Address and password. Choose this to host a web demo, webinar or presentation.
Start Session - view guest's screen allows you to see or control your guest's screen. Your guest will be asked to run Glance from their PC and confirm they want to allow you to see (and optionally control) their screen. Choose this to provide remote support or view documents or applications on you're guests screen.
Join Session lets you view a Glance session using Glance's built-in viewer.
Settings... lets you control how Glance behaves.
The Account tab shows your Glance Address. Clear blanks the Glance Address and Password. Manage takes you to the login page for your account online, where account administrators can view detailed usage reports, add and remove Glance Addresses, update billing information, and change passwords.
The Options tab lets you select how Glance generates session keys. Select Prompt me... if you like telling guests beforehand what four-digit key you will use for a future session. When that date rolls around and you start the session, Glance will prompt you for the key. Uncheck Hide desktop background if you think guests enjoy your taste in wallpaper. You may want to Show "layered" windows if guests cannot see some of your tooltips, menus or pop-up windows. In rare instances, Glance Customer Care may ask you to Always tunnel to alter the way you connect to the Glance service. Exit Glance exits the program and removes the "G" icon from your system tray.
You can check which software version you're running under the About tab.
Start Session - show my screen
Single-click the Glance "G" icon in your system tray and choose Start Session - show my screen.
Tip: Right-clicking the icon opens the menu faster.
Ask your guest to go to the web page at your Glance Address, enter the Session Key, and click Join Session. Your first guest must join within ten minutes, before the Session Key expires. Additional guests can join at any time.
Start Session - view guest screen
On your PC:
- Click the G icon in your task bar near your computer's clock.
- Select Start session - view guest's screen.
- When you are asked "How do you want the session to start?", choose either:
- "View only" (to only see their screen)
- "View and control" (to allow you to control and type on their screen)
On your guest's PC:
- Ask your guest to go to the web page at your Glance Address, enter the Session Key, and click Join Session.
- Tell your guest to follow the instructions on their screen.
- Have them click "Allow" to allow you to view and/or control their screen.
Joining a Session
Guests usually join your session with their web browser. Start a session while your guests are on the phone and ask them to:
- Browse to your Glance web page.
- Enter the Session Key and click the Join Session button.
Alternatively, you can click the email button on your Session Information window to create an email with a link to your session. Add anything you like and send it to your guests.
To invite people you text message, click the copy button. This puts a link to your session on your clipboard. Paste the link into a message and send it to your guests.
You can even post an invitation to Facebook or Twitter.
Guests can also connect from your company's website. Add a Glance box to any web page with just two lines of HTML. Tell your guests to enter the session's key and click the Glance button. Moments later, they see your screen.
Clicking the Can you Glance link takes them to a web page that checks their computer for Glance compatibility. It's located at www.glance.net/CanYouGlance.
During a Session
Once you start a session, several indicators appear:
- A red square appears around the Glance "G" icon.
- A yellow and black border appears around the edge of your screen, to remind you it can be seen by your guests.
- Your desktop wallpaper changes to a solid color.
- A Session Info dialog box appears, reminding you to tell your
guests to go to the web page at your Glance Address and enter the
Session Key. The Session Status shows how many guests have connected.
Clicking Close this window hides the Session Info box. The session remains connected. To show the Session Info dialog box again, double-click the "G" icon or click it once and choose Session Info from the Glance menu.
Tip: To recall your Session Key, hover your mouse pointer over the "G" icon or double-click.
During a session, several additional menu items are available:
Choose Hide my screen when you do not want your guests to see your screen. This does not end your session. Choose Show my screen to resume showing your screen.
The border around your screen vanishes and the Glance icon in your menu bar and/or dock flashes when your screen is hidden. Each guest's view is replaced with a white screen and the message "Screen not being shown". Everyone stays connected.
Allow / Stop remote control lets you share control of your mouse and keyboard with your guests.
Session info shows how many guests are in your session and how to invite additional guests.
End session allows you to end the session for all guests. You will be prompted to confirm this selection.
Remote Control
While showing your screen, you can share control of your mouse and keyboard with your guests. Single-click the G icon and choose Allow remote control. The border around your screen changes from yellow to red.
When viewing your guest's screen, you can request remote control when guest joins, or your guest can Single-click the G icon on their computer and choose Allow remote control
When remote control is allowed, each viewer's pointer says "Click to control". A viewer clicks his mouse to get control. Only one viewer at a time can have control.
When a viewer has control, a red dot appears over their cursor.
To temporarily take back control, move your mouse or type. That viewer's pointer changes to a circle-slashed arrow. Pause a few seconds to let a viewer regain control.
When done, click your G icon and select Stop remote control.
No one can get control of your computer when you don't allow it. We suggest that you not leave remote control running unattended.
You can disable the remote control feature on any computer. When not in a session, single-click the G icon and choose Settings. Click the Options tab and uncheck Enable remote control option. If you don't want to allow remote control in your organization (or just for some users), give us a call and we'll take care of it.
Selecting the Monitor to Show
If you have more than one monitor on your computer, you can select which one Glance shows to your guests.
Click the "G"-icon. Choose Settings > Options.
Select the number of the monitor you wish to show in the menu next to "Show monitor".
Ending or Leaving a Session
Glance behaves like a telephone call. Guests can come and go, but when the last guest leaves, the session ends and its key expires.
Guests leave by closing their viewer window. As session host, you can end your session at any time, disconnecting everyone. Click the "G"-icon and choose End Session.
Creating Keys for Future Sessions
Every Glance session has a four-digit Session Key.
You can have Glance ask you what key to use, instead of getting a random one. This gives you key predictability for sessions you schedule.
Click the "G"-icon. Choose Settings > Options > Prompt me to provide a key when starting each session.
Send an invitation email with your Glance web page address, a four-digit session key (make one up), conference phone number, scheduled time and agenda.
Just before the event, start a session. Glance will prompt you for the session's key. Enter the key in your invitation.
